Nuclear Protest Poem

Nuclear Protest Poem

Massive rush of adrenaline, and waves roaring

“Nuclear – Free NZ,” they shout

Fresh breeze feels amazing on my face

nuclear protesters

fear that haunts

a huge,black submarine

Gunshots fired in the air

Hearts pounding and stress

Coming of the wave

Kia O Rahi

13/6/2023

Yesterday  we had a Kia O Rahi tournament. I wasn’t at school for half of the day because I had to go to an open day. When I arrived at school at 9 or 10 o’clock it was right about time for me and my team to go on the field. The game was wild and people were running super-speed, sometimes I couldn’t even  keep up. When it was time for my side to switch over and I offered to be Guardians with Andreaus. Things were going smoothly. Jacob easily scored points for our team and we won effortlessly.

The next game was the final game. Things were going well. My team scored points and the other team scored points. It was a tie until Willietony came in and ruined everything, he keeps on scoring points and he’s way to be fast for everyone. When anyone would come near him he’d turn into a tornado making it impossible for us to get his tags. In the end the other side won, my team was devastated but at least we came second.

Rosa Park – Presentation

For R.E. this week we have been learning about advocates; someone who is a voice for others.

The Advocate I chose was Rosa Park, an American woman who refused to go to the back of the bus. A white man told her to move to the back, but she refused and did not budge.

Bomb Gone!

Bomb Gone!

My body shivers when I hear the Commander yelling “All hands on deck!” I instantly rush out of my bunk room to the deck where I see my mates sitting down, lips glued shut. Cautiously I tiptoe towards my sitting position trying to avoid Commander’s eagle eyes. With every movement I make I hear my overalls rustle. I slip into my mask and goggles. I settle down onto the hard, warm ground, my back facing the sea like the Commander said. Patiently I wait for the countdown. The ocean air was refreshing and a cool breeze was able to squeeze into my tight overalls, relieving me and my sweaty body.

I was startled when I heard the static of the broadcast “two minutes to the bomb” the man over the radio announced. I sigh, my body was drenched in sweat…the sun was showing no mercy today I thought. I saw the Commander talking to the Captain, they both looked oddly suspicious . My heart starts pounding aggressively when I hear the words that I have been dreading. “60 seconds to burst” I cross my fingers and pray hoping things will go well and I will go home a happy healthy man. “40 seconds, 30 20 15 10 5 4 3 2 1… bomb gone!” Immediately I shut my eyes. Through my sight I saw what looked like the bones of my hands. I was filled with shock and amazement. After 15 seconds we were forced to open our eyes and face the burst. The colour of the explosion was extraordinary, it glowed with colours from deep purple to orange and pink at the top. It also took the form of a dome mushroom. It was beautiful but deadly. I turn around just to see the Commander behind me, he snatches the goggles off me before whispering “stand by for the blast wave” He had an evil grin that spread throughout his face. He knew what he had done. I look at him up and down. He had changed out of his uniform into the protective clothing we were given. He still had his goggles on.

A Letter of Advice

Dear Becca

It’s been a while since we’ve hang out. You rarely talk to me anymore and you’ve been really silent at school nowadays. If anything is wrong, you can tell me. As your friend, I would like to know if anything is wrong. I hope your new step-mum is treating you okay.  I also heard you have a step-brother. I hope he’s not the problem.

But here’s a bit of advice. If you’re not going to talk to me then I suggest to talk to your dad or step-mum, I met her before and she was really nice. If not then I heard about this texting website that lets you talk to someone, like an online therapist. Anyways its called Kids Helpline and its free to call or text. It’s good to talk to people about what you’re going through because it really  helps and takes some weight off your shoulders.

I would like you to take my advice. Stay safe, see you at school tomorrow.

From Sunny.

Blake NZ – VR

Today we had Blake NZ – VR.  We wore a Virtual Reality mask and saw a 360 video of sea creatures in our NZ waters. Thomas our teacher told us the story behind their program and why they created this organisation to teach young people like us.

The story Thomas told us:

Sir Peter Blake was a New Zealand yachtsman. He was a passionate and relentless champion for the environment, having spent his life on the ocean.

Following his sailing career he turned his focus to helping protect the environment and raising awareness of the sea habitat. Onboard his exploration, Peter  and his crew visited Antarctica to look at the impacts of climate change, and then to the Amazon.

Tragically, Sir Peter was killed while carrying out this work by pirates ( thieves on the sea).

The end of his life was very tragic but he is still a legend to this day.

After we continued to use the VR mask and saw many sea creatures. We saw sea lions which was my favorite part, and rainbow fish, sharks, many types of whales, hoi ho (yellow eyed penguins)  and pods of dolphins.

Waka Ama!!!

Wednesday 15/3/2023

Manukau Outrigger Canoe Club

Waka Ama had finally arrived and I was super hyper when I got to school! I was so excited, I’ve never participated in  in any water activities expect for surfing when I was in  Australia.

When I arrived at school, the school gate was still closed. Frances and I were the only seniors there. When the gates opened we rushed to the girl’s bathroom to change into our mufti clothes ( non-uniform).

The bell went and my classmates all rushed to the class. The classroom was chaotic when I came in. We all put sunscreen on and went to the bus.

Our journey began. It was a short distance, but felt like it was taking hours due to traffic. We all hopped off the bus, full of energy. We scrambled to the site and was instructed to site in 4 lines.

Our coaches introduced themselves,  then demonstrated the different strokes and how to use the paddle.

Once we were in the boats we had a wonderful time. I’m excited to see what we are going to learn about Waka Ama next time

The Shape-Shifting Dragon- Pennies For Hitler

Once upon the Medieval time, there was an ancient, stone-colored dragon. It was about a century years old. During this time, no one believed in dragons. To prove the town’s folks wrong, he transformed into an elongated killing machine. A submarine. Its advantage was to fire torpedoes from its mouth. No one who sails the sea could defeat him. Until a British knight challenged him to a brutal battle. He was standing from the ledge of his mighty boat. Dusty gas came out from the smokestacks behind him. The knight bounced onto the dragon and took the first swing. Slash! Water started flowing into the submarine. It underestimated the knight’s strong power. So much force!, The submarine thought. The British knight showed no mercy to the metal contraption. The knight whipped him with an anchor, damaging and denting the submarine’s skin. Because of the damage, the submarine returned to its original form; The ancient dragon it always was. The knight used this moment to lasso the anchor around the dragon, attaching its spiked arms deep into the dragon’s neck. The knight left the scene with no trace. Loss of blood from the dragon was too vast. And the anchor was a huge burden. The reptilian creature sinks into the bottomless deep blue.

Soon after the dragon’s defeat, The townspeople cheered and clapped and jumped with joy. Finally, they could sail  around the sea! Overjoyed and thankful, with no worry about a killer dragon. Some wished their saviour could have stayed, but they were still happy.  The townspeople visited islands with much sunlight, butterflies and bananas.
