Waka Ama!!!

Wednesday 15/3/2023

Manukau Outrigger Canoe Club

Waka Ama had finally arrived and I was super hyper when I got to school! I was so excited, I’ve never participated in  in any water activities expect for surfing when I was in  Australia.

When I arrived at school, the school gate was still closed. Frances and I were the only seniors there. When the gates opened we rushed to the girl’s bathroom to change into our mufti clothes ( non-uniform).

The bell went and my classmates all rushed to the class. The classroom was chaotic when I came in. We all put sunscreen on and went to the bus.

Our journey began. It was a short distance, but felt like it was taking hours due to traffic. We all hopped off the bus, full of energy. We scrambled to the site and was instructed to site in 4 lines.

Our coaches introduced themselves,  then demonstrated the different strokes and how to use the paddle.

Once we were in the boats we had a wonderful time. I’m excited to see what we are going to learn about Waka Ama next time

The Shape-Shifting Dragon- Pennies For Hitler

Once upon the Medieval time, there was an ancient, stone-colored dragon. It was about a century years old. During this time, no one believed in dragons. To prove the town’s folks wrong, he transformed into an elongated killing machine. A submarine. Its advantage was to fire torpedoes from its mouth. No one who sails the sea could defeat him. Until a British knight challenged him to a brutal battle. He was standing from the ledge of his mighty boat. Dusty gas came out from the smokestacks behind him. The knight bounced onto the dragon and took the first swing. Slash! Water started flowing into the submarine. It underestimated the knight’s strong power. So much force!, The submarine thought. The British knight showed no mercy to the metal contraption. The knight whipped him with an anchor, damaging and denting the submarine’s skin. Because of the damage, the submarine returned to its original form; The ancient dragon it always was. The knight used this moment to lasso the anchor around the dragon, attaching its spiked arms deep into the dragon’s neck. The knight left the scene with no trace. Loss of blood from the dragon was too vast. And the anchor was a huge burden. The reptilian creature sinks into the bottomless deep blue.

Soon after the dragon’s defeat, The townspeople cheered and clapped and jumped with joy. Finally, they could sail  around the sea! Overjoyed and thankful, with no worry about a killer dragon. Some wished their saviour could have stayed, but they were still happy.  The townspeople visited islands with much sunlight, butterflies and bananas.
